Merrimack Valley second, Pembroke Academy third
From The Concord Monitor
MV senior Marshall Talley finished first overall but the Pride missed out on first as a team by just four points, finishing behind Portsmouth, 36-40. PA was third with 84 points.
Talley finished with his best time on the course in Penacook (17:42) and was well ahead of the next competitor, Portsmouth freshman Eric Jenkins (18:06). The rest of the Pride runners finished in a tight pack led by Logan Nieder (fifth, 18:58), who was followed by Derel Moller (seventh, 19:18), Ryan Leighton (eighth, 19:37) and Ryan Gamble (ninth, 19:49).
The Pride's top-five average time of 19:05 shattered the old school record on the course, which was 19:26. Moller in particular stepped up, setting a personal best as he continued his recent improvement.
"They're all faster than they were at the end of last year," MV Coach Dave Irving said. "And that's a good spot to be with a month to go."
Freshman Connor Moroney (14th, 20:22) led PA. He was followed by John Andrews (16th, 20:56), Sean Gallant (17th, 20:57), Zach Schmidt (19th, 21:23) and David Berthiaume (20th, 21:28).
